The Semmering Base Tunnel is a sustainable investment in the future of rail transport. As part of the new southern route, it strengthens the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor in Europe. As a result, our economy remains internationally competitive and the environment breathes a sigh of relief: Every ton of freight transported by rail causes around 30 times fewer CO2 emissions than a truck transport.

Our team on site was able to experience the tunneling process first hand.
