At the Tube 2010 to be held in Düsseldorf in April, Stauff will be launching Piggyback solutions for submarine pipe-laying. The term ‘piggyback clamps’ is a fitting description for the components used, predominantly in the oil industry, for attaching supply lines (with a diameter of up to 20 cm) on top of oil pipelines, which usually have a much greater diameter. Demands on these clamps are exceedingly high as their working environment is under the sea on pipelines joining oil rigs to the mainland, sometimes over very long distances. To ensure that the fastening reliably withstands sea water for at least 20 years, one of the three steel straps is made of special-alloy stainless steel. Together with the clamp, this part constitutes the main element of the system. The other two steel straps are only required during the pipe-laying process and dissolve in sea water within a few months. Piggyback clamps are delivered complete with straps and the appropriate fastening tools, if required. Besides supplying standard components, Stauff also make customised products and develop tailored solutions in cooperation with the operating company.
