Teknor Apex Returns to Plastindia with the Broadest Range of Compounds that It has Ever Offered to the Indian Market

Leading Global Compounder Brings Nylon, Flexible and Rigid PVC, and Six Generically Different TPE Families for Automotive, Medical, Wire and Cable, and Many Other Uses

PAWTUCKET, RI, U.S.A., November 22, 2011: Recent expansions in compounding capabilities and product offerings have enabled Teknor Apex Company to provide manufacturers in India with its broadest array of raw material options, along with new opportunities for sourcing multiple compounds from a single supplier, the company announced today. Teknor Apex will highlight its expanded supply capabilities at Plastindia 2012 (Stand 12A17).

Since exhibiting at Plastindia 2009, Teknor Apex has carried out multiple expansions of compounding capacity for rigid and flexible vinyl, nylon, and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), and it now operates twelve manufacturing facilities in the USA, the UK, Belgium, Singapore, and China. There has also been a steady stream of new compounds in all of these product areas, including an entire broad range of medical TPEs under the Medalist® brand, innovative rigid vinyl compounds for custom molding, and numerous specialty formulations for wire and cable.

Most recently, the company acquired the Sarlink® brand of thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) elastomers. As a result, Teknor Apex offers the world’s most diversified portfolio of TPE compounds, including six generically distinct styrenic, polyolefin, and vulcanizate families.

This versatility is reflected in the diversity of markets where Teknor Apex ranks as a key supplier. In automotive, the company maintains relationships with all major OEMs around the world and has hundreds of approvals for its nylon, TPE, and vinyl compounds. The company’s Apex® compounds helped pioneer the use of flexible vinyl in medical applications and have recently been joined by the fast-growing Medalist range of TPEs. In the wire and cable industry, Teknor Apex has been a leading supplier of vinyl compounds for six decades.

“Our focus at Plastindia will be on the sheer diversity of our product offerings,” said Bertram M. Lederer, executive vice president of Teknor Apex. “This versatility enables us to recommend precisely the best compound for any particular job, and to simplify purchasing for customers by serving as a single source for multiple materials. Custom formulation is our specialty, but even when a standard compound will do the job, customers can rely on us to provide engineering support for application development, assist with regulatory compliance and OEM specifications, and help in optimizing the processing of our materials.”

Newest Teknor Apex Product Range: Sarlink® TPVs:

Sarlink compounds consist of dynamically vulcanized EPDM rubber within a polypropylene matrix and as a result combine truly rubber-like elasticity with the processing ease of thermoplastics. While they are used in a wide range of applications, currently their biggest market is automotive. They are used in sealing-system, under-hood / under-bonnet, exterior, and interior components for automotive brands worldwide.

“Sarlink TPV elastomers promise to become preferred alternatives to rubber, vinyl, and other TPEs for India’s automotive manufacturers,” said Jan Duyfjes, who is responsible for TPE marketing and sales in India. “These compounds exhibit better high-temperature resistance and weatherability than many other widely used TPEs. In comparison with thermoset rubber, Sarlink
TPVs provide lower production costs and scrap rates and greater design flexibility for complex constructions, while exhibiting comparable UV stability and long-term sealing performance. And unlike rubber, Sarlink TPVs are recyclable.”
