Non-absorbable surgical sewing material (monofilaments) made from Lenzing PROFILEN®

In the summer of 2011 Lenzing Plastics launched a new, innovative product on the market which is convincing thanks to its quality and performance features.

The newly developed surgical suture material will support surgeons in their daily activities. Patients with heart diseases or who had an accident will benefit from extra comfort during the healing process. The soft texture and excellent soft tissue compatibility make it an extremely high-quality product.

Polytetraflouroethylen (PTFE) products are chemically inert (non-reacting) and are only rejected by the body in very rare cases. The biocompatibility of the material allows almost unlimited use as a permanent implant. Even with pre-existing infections, the product will not be degraded or damaged.

Often, during or after a surgical procedure, the knot dissolves which can cause serious problems during the healing process. To counteract this, a special surface structure has been developed which ensures the durability of the knot.

The first complete tarpaulin made of Lenzing PROFILEN® in the Salzkammergut region

The first complete tarpaulin (18 m²) made of Lenzing PROFILEN® (18 m²) produced by Lenzing Plastics was realised in the Salzkammergut region of Austria in cooperation with Meisel, a company in Pinsdorf, Upper Austria.

Meisel manufactured integrated ventilation eyelets in order to guarantee solid comfort for demanding customers of wooden sailing boats. In this way condensation water formation could be significantly reduced. Due to the particular properties of Lenzing PROFILEN®, which serve as the basis for simple cleaning, the Lenzing PROFILEN® fabric covering 18 m² provides long-lasting protection of the exclusive wooden sailing boats against dirt and water.
