Launch at WIRE: the new high-performance GRM-NC system from Bihler

The new NC production system GRM-NC is perfectly designed for the highly flexible manufacture of stamping and forming parts made from strip and wire. This machine offers decisive advantages for suppliers who are confronted with frequent model changes, small batch sizes and very short response times with varying requirements and especially for those using the Bihler models GRM 50 and GRM 80: all tools of these two models can be adapted and optimised quickly and completely on the GRM-NC. Hence the machine can replace several machines - downtimes are eliminated, output rates increased and logistics management improved significantly.

Fully automatic slide positioning unit

The newly designed NC-controlled slide positioning unit embedded in the machine offers very short setup times. It allows the positions of the NC slide modules to be adjusted radially simply by pressing a button. Once the slide positions have been set up, they can be stored in the tool program. When they are retrieved later or after changing tools, they can be restored and reproduced exactly. The positioning unit is capable of moving the NC slide units to all basic positions as well as all corresponding slide models (narrow and standard slides, right/left versions) of GRM machines.

High tech NC units

The NC processing units also offer short setup times. This is possible by programming only, without mechanical add-ons. The units can be adjusted quickly, simply and individually to existing tools. The system adapts to your tools.

All NC processing units of the GRM-NC can be freely programmed for the whole operating range. Working stroke, lower dead centre, adjustment of the stroke position and the motion profile can be selected freely. Maximum output can be achieved at any time and with any stroke position. Forming motion can be implemented with constant power transmission. In addition, all units have an integrated cooling and central lubrication system. An overload safety device integrated in the software prevents incorrect handling or overloading. The integrated absolute measuring system fully compensates for process-related influences of temperature.

Central machine and process control

Bihler's VariControl VC 1 acts as the central machine and process control unit for the GRM-NC. Setup operations can be carried out without an external programming unit. Customised menu navigation guides the user through all necessary activities, resulting in fast and simple setups and retooling of the machine.

Simple input dialogs have been integrated for programming the NC units. For example, the basic motion of an NC slide unit can be programmed with just a few settings. Production menus and user interfaces can be configured freely and individually and adapted to every customer application. An integrated measurement and production data recorder rounds off the user-friendly control for the new GRM-NC.
